Co-operative bank deposits drop in TN Sellur K. Raju TN Assembly Special Mention 02-07-2018 CHENNAI: Deposits in cooperative banks in Tamil Nadu dropped 27% year-on-year during the 2017-18. The deposit in cooperative banks in 2017-18 was Rs 8,271.86 crore compared to Rs 11,240 crore in 2016-17. Despite deposits coming down, the banks’ reserves went up from Rs 778.66 crore to Rs 793.75 crore in the last financial year and the net profit also went up from Rs 43.70 crore to Rs 132.81 crore. “Deposits increase or decrease each year, but the banks’ profits and reserves have increased. The reason for last year’s deposits coming down must be demonetisation,” said cooperative minister Sellur K Raju replying to DMK MLA R Rajendran's query during debate on demands for cooperative department in the assembly on Monday.
