Cyclone Gaja Help the needy, says Kanimozhi K. Kanimozhi, MP, addressing a meeting in Thoothukudi on Friday. The outcome of by-polls that may be conducted in the near future for the 20 Assembly segments would decide the future and fate of Tamil Nadu, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi has said. Addressing the party’s women’s wing meeting held here on Friday, Ms. Kanimozhi said members of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s women’s wing should get involved in social activities by serving the helpless and fight for rights of the voiceless. Besides representing the people’s grievances such as drinking water crisis, need for motorable roads etc., to the officials concerned, the women’s wing members should help senior citizens and the physically challenged in getting assistance from the government. “If you work for the needy, you can easily approach them for votes for our candidates during the elections. If you fight for the rights and genuine needs of the people, you need not worry about the ‘cash for votes’ strategy, possibly to be staged by the ruling party. The polls to be conducted for the 20 constituencies are not merely ‘battle of ballots’ as the outcome is capable of changing the fate of Tamil Nadu. If we can win these 20 seats, this anti-people regime will be thrown out,” Ms. Kanimozhi said. She urged the cadre to tell the public about the AIADMK government’s failure in all fronts. Ms. Kanimozhi, during an informal chat with reporters, exuded confidence that the DMK would win all 20 Assembly segments if the polls were conducted in a free and fair manner. When the reporters asked about a year-long rumour that she would contest from Thoothukudi Lok Sabha segment in the next Parliamentary polls, she neither admitted nor denied it and left the spot.
