EPS and OPS Welcomed PM Modi Cauvery Management Board is integral part of SC order, Tamil Nadu CM tells PM Modi CHENNAI: Amid raging protests against the central government for not complying with the Supreme Court order, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee immediately. In a one-page memorandum presented to Modi at Chennai airport, the chief minister said the board and committee vested with all powers should be set up immediately to effectively implement the orders of the tribunal and the Supreme Court. “The constitution of the Cauvery Management Board has become an integral part of Supreme Court’s judgment,” Palaniswami said. The chief minister recalled the court verdict on February 16, directing that a scheme should be formulated by the Centre within six weeks to implement the notified order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. “The SC has clearly stated that the final order of the tribunal has merged with the judgment,” he said. “The farmers of the delta are dependent on the Cauvery for irrigation and are fervently hoping that the above implementation machinery will be constituted by the Centre to enable them to commence agricultural operation in the next irrigation season that starts at June 1,” Palaniswami said. While the opposition parties and Tamil outfits were staging black flag demonstrations against Modi for not setting up the board as per SC order, the latter chose to remain silent on the issue in both his events -- formal inauguration of the defence expo and inauguration of the diamond jubilee building at Adyar Cancer Institute.
