Do you remember the person who gave you your first, big career opportunity? The person who saw the potential in you, maybe before you were ready, to do something you had never done before? That person was your sponsor, and Beth Berger, a first year Stanford MBA student, shares a playbook for becoming a sponsor to those who come behind you, no matter where you are today.

Poverty in Silicon Valley? While Silicon Valley has been growing at record pace, the Latino community of Silicon Valley has been left behind. Xochitl Cazador, a Stanford Sloan Fellow, describes the challenges that many Latino families face, the beautiful entrepreneurial spirit of her East San Jose commuity, and the need to create more opportunities for people from a different path.

America's money bail system needs to change. Bail is rigid and it isn't means tested. For the school year’s last View From The Top, Merck CEO Ken Frazier discussed improving the global healthcare system, the opportunity gap in the U.S., and the importance of leaders providing dynamic mentoring. “I’m a CEO because my previous leaders provided me access, took an interest in me, and forced me out of my comfort zone.”

Stanford MBA students answer questions about life at the GSB for students pursuing careers in the consumer products sector.

During his View From The Top session, General David Petraeus discussed adaptive leadership, how to be a strong strategic leader, and how to handle personal and/or professional setbacks.

On handling responsibility, he said “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. You may never expect to achieve a certain position of responsibility, but you always want to be prepared for when it happens.”

The Stanford Graduate School of Business diploma ceremony was held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Maples Pavilion. In his remarks to the 550 degree recipients, Dean Jonathan Levin encouraged the graduates to be leaders who act with empathy, courage, and responsibility as they build a future world they may not yet be able to see. Carlos Brito, MBA '89, CEO of Anheuser-Busch InBev, also addressed the group, sharing that "A higher order of motivation is not only about you, but about other people and the world around you. As you enter this new phase, make sure you have a measure, a test, that is bigger than just you." In summary, 423 students received MBA degrees, 22 PhDs, 104 Master of Science in Management degrees and 1 Master of Arts in Business Research degrees.

“The sooner you learn what you love and what makes you passionate – go do it. If you do something for the money, or because your friends are doing it, you’ll wake up one day in that career and wish you’d done something else.”
President & CEO of United Airlines, Oscar Munoz, visited campus for the school year’s first View From The Top speaker series. Munoz was frank about how he had to work with employees and investors after “turbulence” in the press and shared his views on why knowing yourself is the most sure-way to success.
